Dads Role Matters
Dad’s are vital in labor and after during the postnatal period. During home visits with Urban Doula dads will learn pain management techniques to assist mom during labor. Dad’s participating in the birth and assisting with pain managements techniques brings mom a sense of comfort and support.
After baby is delivered it’s important that dad has skin- to-skin time with baby. There have been numerous studies that show skin-to-skin contact has the ability to regulate the blood-oxygen level, body temperature, and breathing rate of newborn. Skin-to-skin also enhances the parent-child attachment relationship. For dad’s it also a time where daddy instincts kick in. Can help put parenting into prospective for a newly dad, that he is a provider and protector of this little human. Its a great time for dad to become acquainted with baby!
